Children's Literature -
Turtle wears a colorful hat with a spinning propeller at the top. Problems develop when the wind causes Turtle's hat to fly off of his head. It sails through the air and into a zoo, where it lands on a kangaroo. The hat travels through the zoo flying into a lion's den and around a bear and a seal. The ape, rhino, moose, and giraffe try to grab it, but the hat is moving too quickly. Finally, the hat lands beside an old gnu. She helps Turtle solve his problem. She tells Turtle to use glue to keep his hat in place. Now, when the wind blows Turtle's hat, he too goes along for the ride. This book is part of the yellow level in the "Read-it! Readers" series and includes challenging ideas and varied sentence structure while incorporating a broad vocabulary. This book would be a great book to use when teaching about the problem and solution in a story. The book includes vibrant pictures and rhyming verse which children are sure to love. At the end of the book, the author provides a list of other books that are part of the yellow level in the "Read-it! Readers" series. A web site is also included where the reader can find additional information related to topics in the book. All of the sites have been researched by an educational staff member to ensure they are safe and appropriate. Reviewer: Melissa HowerBook Details
