School Library Journal

These two bright, attractive, simple craft books will interest and inspire young artists and the adults who work with them. Each book offers 12 projects illustrated on one double-page spread per project. The crafts are photographed in sparkling color on clear white backgrounds. Bold black titles and minimal text (occasionally none) describe the projects; a sprightly watercolor elf in an appropriate costume adds a comment to each one. Projects range from very simple button collages, cork animals, and a stacked cork castle, to a more complex and unique button marionette, cork parachutists, floating animals, and button-wheeled vehicles. All materials are readily available. Although there are no lists of material used or step-by-step directions, the projects will be self-explanatory to older children and to adults working with younger children. Several of the projects are for game pieces; directions are then included for playing simple games. --Susan L. Rogers, Chestnut Hill Academy, PA
