Children's Literature

This colorful, easy-to-follow beginning reader introduces youngsters to various sounds heard around the house. The author uses large type, simple text and colorful photographs to explore house-related onomatopoeiaβ€”words that sound like what they describe. Some of the featured words include: tick tock, ding dong, beep, boing, ring, click clack, and squeak. The bright, close-up photographs illustrate children and adults performing different actions that create these unique house noises, such as playing with a train (choo, choo), jumping on a bed (boing), waking up to an alarm clock (beep, beep), and answering the telephone (ring, ring). Not only will young readers enjoy this reading experience, but they will be anxious to discover other familiar sounds in their own homes. This is a great read-aloud book for beginning and transitional readers. A picture index and a glossary are also included. This is part of the "SandCastle: Sound Words" series. 2004, Abdo Publishing Company, Ages 5 to 8.
