Children's Literature
This is a book to stir the imagination. Tom has planted a seed and despite his brother's insistence that nothing will grow, believes that his tree will bear colorful fruit and have peacocks singing as they perch in its branches. As the days go by, he continues to imagine his tree growing large enough to hold a tree house pirate ship. Finally however, Tom agrees with his brother that his thoughts of his tree growing big and strong like a dragon are only dreams. The following spring when the tree begins to sprout Tom starts to think once again of all the exciting things that will happen in his tree, but then he loses interest. As the tree slowly grows, Tom also grows and leaves his dreams centering on the tree to pursue other dreams. The tree is alone until one day Tom returns with his son to find the tree tall and full with leafy branches. Happily he says to his son, "This is my tree." The little boy claps his hands with joy as he imagines peacocks, sailing ships and golden dragons. Both Tom and his son have haircuts giving them each a subtle and fitting resemblance to an acorn.
