K-Gr 3-Each entry in this series presents minimal information in simplistic language. Each topic is explained in one or two paragraphs with phonetic spellings for medical terms. The full-color photographs decorate the pages with objects such as soup, a bicycle, or an ice bag. Only Caucasians are depicted. Fever gives advice on what to do for a fever. Tonsillitis gives a brief explanation of a tonsillectomy and has two simple diagrams. Bruises gives the standard treatment for sports injuries-RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevate). The topic is better explained in Joanna Cole's Cuts, Breaks, Bruises, and Burns (Crowell, 1985). The lists for further information are identical in all three books; they include two Web sites and five encyclopedias. Any one of those sources is a better place to find this information.-Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NYBook Details
