Children's Literature
This collection of thirty-three stories and rhymes includes dot-to-dot activities or mazes that can be used along with the stories. The sections are divided into Nursery Rhymes;Songs, Tales, and Poems;Celebrations;and Seasons. Each dot-to-dot drawing or maze is designed to be reproduced for classroom use. Additional activities and art projects are suggested for each story. The dot-to-dots are connected by letters, shapes, patterns and numbers so children can learn a variety of skills. Written by a former classroom teacher, the author is now a storyteller and presents workshops at conferences and professional in-services. Although the book is suggested for pre-k through third grade, I would be cautious using the mazes and dot-to-dots with preschoolers because young children often find them frustrating. The stories and songs are appropriate for this age, however, and can be used on their own, as well as with the other suggested activities. 2001, Alleyside Press, $15.95. Ages 5 to 8.
