Gr 3-6-- Three overviews devoted to natural disasters. In a similar format, each discusses how the particular phenomenon occurs, its potential destructive force, the current state of predictions and warning methods, and what to do if faced with an occurrence. The informative texts are interspersed with plenty of white space, full-color photographs, and labeled diagrams that explain scientific principles involved, making them useful for reports. Armbruster's Tornadoes (Watts, 1989) and Fradin's Disaster! Blizzards and Winter Weather (Childrens, 1983) are more comprehensive, and Branley's Tornado Alert (1988) and Hurricane Watch (1985, both Crowell) are more accessible to less able readers, but they don't provide as much information. --Eunice Weech, M.
