Debra Briatico - Children's Literature

The author definitely has a knack for knowing what's cool and hip in today's teen pop culture. This collection of 56 word search puzzles focuses on popular teen themes such as music, movies, television, the mall, fashions, sports, dances, cars, romance, parties, the Internet, games, the prom, and graduation. Readers are invited to solve each puzzle by finding twenty theme-related words hidden in a grid. Words can be hidden horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. In addition to providing traditional word search puzzles, the author also presents a puzzle-within-a-puzzle feature. After locating and circling all of the words in a puzzle, readers are asked to take all of the unused letters (from left to right, row by row, top to bottom) and spell out a message that relates to the puzzle's theme. The hidden messages contain interesting facts, trivia, quotations, and observations about topics of interest to teens. There are also three "Guess the Celebrity" puzzles that ask readers to figure out the last names of famous actors, actresses, and comedians. These fun fill-in-the-blank puzzles add an extra challenge to this already entertaining book. A complete answer key and index are also included. Teens will love this totally cool publication! 2002, Sterling Publishing,
