Overview

As we witness the burgeoning of a global economy, it is unsurprising to learn that the manner in which we are taught is increasingly shaped by the demands of the marketplace. Edmond O'Sullivan examines modern education and proposes a visionary transformation of this century's pedagogy. Transforming Learning confronts the current market forces that are moving education in the direction of a narrow-sighted vision of 'training in competitiveness.' Rather than supporting the notion of competition, O'Sullivan argues that the process of learning should espouse a global understanding of Earth as a habitat of interdependent life forms.

In his exploration of the foundational levels of education, O'Sullivan incorporates scholarship from a variety of disciplines, including: anthropology, post-colonial studies, ecology, cosmology, political theory, feminist theory, media studies, chaos and morphic resonance theory, and the new physics. The breadth of the study is extensive, thus exemplifying O'Sullivan's radical aim to revise the way in which we live and learn in our world.
