Overview
This book provides PE teachers with everything they need to teach tactics and game sense that can then be transferred to a various number of sports.
In the first section of this book Dennis Slade provides teachers with the theory behind using generic games and play that help the participant begin to understand key tactical principles and develop skills that can be applied in many different sports. This helps explain why the games within the book are so effective in developing gross motor skills such as running, dodging, catching, throwing and kicking. All of these skills can be used in many of the popular games children and adults play.
The key skills required for attack and defence are broken down in to games which help students focus on movement and tactics, team formations, man-to-man and zonal defence. The book also provides ideas for teachers to transfer the skills and tactics learnt into specific sports, which include, basketball, soccer, badminton and netball.
Ultimately the aim of the book is to be able to provide PE teachers the tools to teach students Attack and Defence games in order to develop the students gross motor skills and tactical understanding.
