Synopsis

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of an international academic journal devoted to symbolic logic, two conferences were held in October and November of 2003 in Poland and Denmark, respectively. Hendricks (philosophy and science studies, Roskilde U., Denmark) and Malinowski (philosophy and sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences) present 12 of the lectures from those conferences, some quarter of which look at the history of the journal and the course of the discipline over the past half-century. The remainder deal with more current issues of symbolic logic such as generalized matrices in abstract algebraic logic, quantum computational logic, type logics in grammar, and questions of canonicity.
