Synopsis

When a family of Trolls moves into the quiet suburb of Biddlesden, it's likely that things are going to get ugly (and possibly hairy and smelly) very soon, since trolls like to roar as loudly as possible and stomp their hairy feet. Even worse, the Trolls have moved in next door to the Priddle family. BIG mistake, and sparks will fly!

Children's Literature

The Priddles are as conventional as white bread. So when they learn that Trolls have moved next door to live, they are not happy. It's a case of culture shock for all concerned. The Trolls are not used to having Trollish conveniences, like cowpies and goat pie, unavailable and they find the whole idea of smelling nice a LOT odd. The only Troll who doesn't mind (so much) is Ulrik Troll, the son of Nora and Egbert. Ulrik is dead keen on this new adventure. That is, he's keen until he is subjected to the sneaky social ambush of Priddle's son Warren. Warren thinks that the only thing worse than living next door to a Troll is having one attend the same class at the same school and expect to be best friends. Shenanigans ensue. The situation promises to get a lot worse but Fate (with a capital F) steps in when Ulrik saves the class from an angry mean goat that Warren set free. After that, everyone is forced to set aside their misconceptions and prejudice and realize that different is not always bad and compromise can lead to good neighbors. This is a delightful and entertaining read. I particularly liked the lighthearted lesson in kindness.
