May modestly says that this reference is not ``an end in itself . . . not even . . . a means to an end.'' Nevertheless, it is a succinct and well-written guide to the past quarter century of criticism of 32 writers who flourished from roughly 1925 to 1975. Most writers are already canonical; only six (Aichinger, Lem, Moravia, Robbe-Grillet, Singer, and Solzhenitsyn) are still alive. This bibliography can save teachers developing a new course hours of time.--Marilyn Gaddis Rose, SUNY at BinghamtonBooknews
