Overview

Published in 1916, this small book of travel essays recounts Lawrence's experiences on his first extended trip outside England.  But don’t expect reviews of famous historical sports, for, as Anais Nin noted, Twilight in Italy "cannot be read as an ordinary travel book, for his voyage is philosophic, as well as a symbolic and sensuous one."

About the Author, D. H. Lawrence

D. H. Lawrence (1885-1930) was a prolific man of letters whose novels were famous for their frank depiction of human sexuality and scathing criticism of modernity. Reviled by the literary establishment during his life, he is now regarded as one of England's greatest writers, and his novels, especially Lady Chatterley's Lover and Sons and Lovers, have been recognized as masterpieces.
