Chorlton traces the history of the electronic revolution from vacuum tubes through transistors to the invention of the chip. The personalities involved in the technology are introduced and its advancement is explained. The chip's effects on society, such as workplace changes, communication, entertainment, and transportation, are discussed. The books have many black-and-white and color photographs, descriptive fact boxes, and time lines. The reading level is understandably high due to the scientific terminology.
