[Unwinnable Wars] is on the border between scholarly study and policy analysis, addressing a sophisticated analysis of a complex problem to a fairly wide audience. You can read this book without a lot of knowledge. It is also clearly written and would be a perfectly reasonable text for undergraduates.... As with most ambitious books, many readers will have reservations about particular points.... Nonetheless, on balance this is an excellent book on an important topic. If you have similar titles on your desk, you many want to start with this one.
