Synopsis
This book is the first volume of a series of publications on Urban Air Pollution. It contains a selection of invited review articles covering urban air pollution topics. The nine chapters in the book have been contributed by leading authors in the field. The first part of the book presents a detailed analysis of several case studies, including the cities of Athens (Greece), Graz (Austria), Lisbon (Portugal), Mexico City (Mexico), and Tokyo (Japan). In the last part of the book some characteristic urban air pollution processes are discussed in depth. They include: the ecology of urban emissions; reciprocity between the urban heat island effect and air pollution; and landfill emissions of gases to the atmosphere. The subsequent volumes in the series will cover further developments in the field, including more case studies and analyses of other urban air pollution processes.
