Canadian immigrants themselves, the McLaughlins provide a guide that is chockfull of useful information for any immigrant, legal or illegal, in the United States, from how to get a green card to how to apply for U.S. citizenship to how go about buying a house. Easy to navigate, this translation is divided into two sections one dealing with the process of becoming a legal resident and citizen of the United States, and the other concentrating on how to settle down in this country. Although the massive amount of information can be dizzying at times, the vocabulary is basic and easy to understand. Additionally, every section begins with a summary of the chapters to come, making it easier for readers to skip what doesn't apply to them. The authors also provide an index, appendixes listing other sources of information, and a list of 100 questions for the citizenship test. Unfortunately, the English versions of these questions, which are what most immigrants will be facing come interview time with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, are not available in this book. Nonetheless, this guide is essential for any library or bookstore serving Latino immigrants. Cesar Cazales, "Criticas"
