Overview

Whether on water, land, or suspended in midair, many popular outdoor sports that encounter the elements require a knot for its reliability, strength, or ease of use. Geoffrey Budworth’s book, Useful Knots, is an excellent resource for anglers, climbers, sailors, campers, and general projects done around the home.

Topics range from a brief history of rope materials, how to distinguish a knot from a hitch or a bend, tips and techniques for each knot’s construction and how to avoid fraying, and many more. Specific knots featured include the double overhand knot, pole hitch, Albright knot, Zeppelin bend, buntline hitch, cow hitch variation, World’s Fair knot, bowline, cat’s paw, Jansik special, and the Alpine butterfly, among many others.

With easy-to-follow diagrams and clear guidelines as to which knot is best suited for a certain activity, Useful Knots is a very handy reference.

Editorials

From the Publisher

Praise for Geoffrey Budworth and his other books on tying knots:

"Lucid illustrations and learned yet simple text."
--San Francisco Chronicle, on The Complete Book of Fishing Knots

"Over eighty ornamental and useful knots with easy-to-follow, step-by-step illustrations. All knots serve useful purposes, but many of the more complicated ones also create appealing shapes and interwoven textures. "The Complete Book of Decorative Knots" contains easy-to-follow, expert instructions on how to tie over eighty knots, ranging from the simple to the elaborate."
--Ingram, on The Complete Book of Decorative Knots

"There have been other knot books on the market, but Geoffrey Budworth's Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Knots is more lavishly illustrated than most, providing hundreds of color photos and illustrations which tell the best way to tie a knot for particular uses. Over eighty of the world's most useful knots are well detailed in a fine home reference."
--Internet Book Watch, on The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Knots
