Library Journal

Schaub offers a solid, well-organized introduction to the digital camera, beginning with an explanation of digital photography that compares the new medium with film photography. In plain language, he then discusses "pixel, bits, and bytes," including image capture, memory cards, file format, and digital imaging systems. He goes on to discuss cameras and exposure controls, downloading images and file management, along with editing techniques. Separate chapters are devoted to printing digital images and Internet images, including email and web sites. This fine book also includes very useful chapters on building a digital library and "picture projects" and concludes with a glossary, resources (mostly web sites), and an index. This is one of the most practical, clearly written, and best-organized step-by-step guides to digital photography. Highly recommended, especially as a first book to read about digital photography.
