PreS-Gr 2-These marvelous new series titles introduce occupations to the youngest listeners and readers. The pages feature only a few lines of text, usually two sentences, and one or more brightly colored and appropriate photographs. End matter includes a "test" that asks students to remember the names of selected items from the earlier text, a photographic glossary, and even an index. Bibliotecario takes note of public and school libraries as well as bookmobiles, and shows librarians working with computers, bar code scanners, and card catalogs. Policia shows officers riding bikes and horses, as well as driving in squad cars, and all the books except Vaquero show both male and female practitioners. Arguably vaquero is more gender specific than the other job titles, but it would have been nice to see some cowgirls as well. These are wonderful books-attractive, direct, and informative. Recommended for all schools and children's book departments.
