A new edition of Laura Mulvey’s groundbreaking collection of essays, originally published in 1989. in an extensive introduction to this second edition, Mulvey looks back at the historical and personal contests for her famous article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema, and reassesses her theories in the light of new technologies.

Mulvey, a filmmaker and Britain's foremost feminist film theorist, provides an outline of an intellectual era within feminism and film cultures from the 1970's to 80's.

LAURA MULVEY is Professor of Film and Media Studies at Birkbeck College, University of London, UK. Her most recent book is Death Twenty-four Times a Second: Reflections on Stillness in the Moving Image.
