Containing some 10,000 entries, this directory lists governmental and nongovernmental organizations in the U.S. national capital region. Entries provide the organization's name, key leaders or directors, web addresses, contact information, and brief descriptions of activities. The entries are listed topically under the 20 primary headings, including, among others, advocacy and public service, agriculture and nutrition, communications and the media, culture and recreation, education, employment and labor, energy, environment and natural resources, government operations, housing and development, national and homeland security, transportation, and social services and disabilities. Also included are name and subject indexes and appendices providing a directory of government information on the Internet, listings of state officials and foreign embassies, and information on the Freedom of Information Act and federal privacy legislation.
