Synopsis
Simple text introduces facts about the moon.
Sally Niezgoda - Children's Literature
This small book can introduce a child to the moon in the night sky. As each page is turned, a stunning photograph on one side is accompanied by a sentence or two for the child to read about the picture on the other side. A striking close-up picture of the moon shows the large craters on the surface. It is followed by interesting photographs of a full moon, a crescent moon, a half moon and a new moon. In each case, there is a sentence or two of facts about the various phases of the moon depicted. The pictures are interesting and the sentences are easily read. The book mentions two other resource books and a Nova website where children can find out more facts about the moon. This is one of several publications in the "Watching Nature" series from Welcome Books to encourage children to investigate the universe. It would be an effective addition to the early learning classroom. 2004, Children's Press/Scholastic Library Publishing, Ages 5 to 8.
