Children's Literature

Nine fullcolor photographs, one per page, of school librarians at work are accompanied by a simple sentence or two describing their jobs. The small book size, clean layout, and repetitive text will encourage the emergent reader. With just nine pages of brief text, the student will complete the book quickly. Part of the "Helpers in Our School" series, this title would be useful in the early primary grade curriculum segment on community helpers. The "Read More" section lists four children's titles that may be of interest to the student. The Internet sites will require adult assistance. Serviceable at best. 2000, Pebble Books/Capstone Press, Ages 4 to 7, $13.25. Reviewer: Sharon Salluzzo

School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1-One sentence per page is used to describe the work of librarians or principals and is visually reinforced by a facing full-color photo. It's just the right amount of information for beginning readers, and the repetitive texts will aid in their word-recognition skills. The photographs depict men and women of various ethnic heritages and do a good job of reflecting the texts. These books will enhance community helpers' units.-Susan Knell, Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
