Overview

The people and places in this book have two things in common-all are in some way associated with transportation-all are in some way associated with the West. Whatever means of transport settlers used to travel from east to west are to be found here. The first came by ship. After their arrival on the shores of North America in search of land they might own, some pushed further west. They traveled by riverboats and canal, bridges and ferries, by stagecoach, rail, and automobile. This is the story of these people and the transportation they used.
