Overview

Briefly speaking, this lift-the-flap book is laugh-out-loud fun, and educational, too!

This hilarious lift-the-flap features animals and the underwear they wear! Kids will roar with laughter as they lift each flap and reveal boxers on a horse, furry undies on a crocodile, leafy green bloomers on a sheep, and more. We save the best for last, though--on the final spread, an elephant is hiding behind a large leaf...for good reason. He forgot to put on any underwear! This is a fun way to teach colors...and the importance of wearing your drawers!

Children's Literature

Lloyd's whimsical illustrations and text will have all young children squealing with delight as they lift up the flaps covering the animals' undergarments to reveal the color and design of the animals' underwear. This book is more sophisticated than a mere book of colors, and the rich descriptions are too complicated for youngsters to read by themselves. Children will enjoy the bright, colorful, funky animal illustrations as well as the repetitive text, "What color is your underwear . . . ?" The readers become involved as they take part in revealing the mystery of the underwear color of each animal. The book ends with a surprising twist; Elephant John has forgotten to wear his underwear. This book may raise some eyebrows with its quite unconventional line of questioning. This is not exactly a book that models good questions for your child to be asking friends or strangers. Nonetheless, it is quite fun and offers a great deal of amusement for all. 2003, Cartwheel Books/Scholastic, Ages 3 to 7.
