Children's Literature - Meagan Albright

It often seems that educational books designed specifically for the classroom or library are good, but may not be worth the hefty price tag. After all, a few recommended resources and a glossary of keywords do not usually increase the value of a 25-page book. The "Super SandCastle Creature Feature" books by Mary Elizabeth Salzmann are a wonderful exception to this trend. The photographs are clear and colorful, with the webbed feet of each creature clearly visible. Each animal has a two-page spread, with a large photograph on the left page and text on the right that consistently provides two fun facts about the featured animal. The cover is simple, bright and eye-catchingβ€”sure to attract young readers. This book is strongly recommended for purchase for public libraries and school media centers. Luckily this sure-to-be-popular title is sturdy and well- constructed. It should hold up to the frequent circulation we can expect. Reviewer: Meagan Albright
