Children's Literature - Meagan Albright

Part of a series by the author on the topic of animal habitats, this book, like the other titles, is visually appealing, with sharp, crisp and colorful photographs of the animals described in the text. However, also like the other titles in the series, it has a few minor flaws. Several animals are pictured with no accompanying information, and while some of the animals can be easily identified, the identities of others are more difficult to ascertain. This can be frustrating for young readers, as well as the adults who are sharing the book with the children. Also, the next to last page in the book has a list of more rain forest animals, posing the question, "Can you learn about these rain forest animals?" with no resource guide or book or website suggestions to find more information. This series would be a good purchase for libraries and school media centers looking to expand their nonfiction collection, but it would not be part of the core collection. Reviewer: Meagan Albright
