Gr 3-6-This overview explains what Islam is, where it came from, and how it has spread over time. Petrini provides a look at the background, beliefs, practices, holidays, and challenges of the religion today. While the majority of the information is well gathered and presented, there are some statistics that may be misleading. For example, a chart indicates that Islam makes up the largest religious population in the world. The numbers add up differently if Christianity were to be considered collectively instead of divided into sects of Catholicism and Protestantism. Also, while many sources, including this one, claim that Islam is the world's fastest-growing religion, there are equally as many to list Christianity. The full-color photographs and religious paintings throughout the book are as informative as they are appealing. Overall, this is a serviceable addition but not a first purchase.-Amanda Rose Conover, St. John's County Public Library System, Ponte Vedra Beach Branch, FL Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
