Energy, imagination, and a keen sense of what's important in a child's world charge the colorful double-page spreads of this kid's-eye view of noises. Each left-hand page leads with a question, such as "What noise does Samuel's dog make?" The answer appears with an engaging photo of the boy and his pup while the opposite page features more pets and their sounds. This same format continues throughout the book, with toddlers and preschoolers pictured with musical instruments, clocks, and, of course, toys of all kinds--plush animals, miniature model vehicles, and play appliances. The final query--"What noise does Daniel's baby sister make?"--offers candid images of laughing, cooing, crying, and sleeping babies to conclude this lively addition to a series that includes "What's Inside?" (1990), "What Color?" (1991), "What Shape?" (1992), and "How Many"? (1993).
