PreS-Gr 1-- This rather ingenious introduction to the development of different babies in the animal world, both during prenatal development and after birth, uses color photographs of the mothers (or father in the case of sea horses) and ``peel-back'' illustrations of the fetuses. Very brief discussions of gestation periods, development in the womb or egg, and care of the young are also mentioned. Human, pony, dog, porcupine, bird, crocodile, wallaby, and sea horse are all profiled. This type of information is available in more detail in other sources, yet this book presents it in an attractive, intriguing format that is certain to arouse curiosities and raise questions. Some good basic books on anatomy and reproduction appropriate for preschoolers will be needed as supplements.-- Cynthia M. Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukee, ORBook Details
