The third title in the series "Step into Science" series, this book looks at the development of the experiment. Using short articles, short features about actual experiments, pictures, and illustrations, the author guides the reader through the development of the experiment that tests the hypothesis and tries to provide a possible answer to the questions proposed. Divided into sections for easy reading, the sections feature information about variables, controls, measuring, and observing, and build upon information from the previous book in this series. Two experiments are included that help the reader apply the information presented by using simple and safe materials and systematic directions. The pictures and illustrations provide visual clues and information, and the section on journaling provides the reader with an example of how to record the experimental procedure. The time line included lists examples of scientific discoveries that required planning, and the glossary and resource page provided further information for the young scientist.
