Simple machines and experiments demonstrating how they work are described for 13 science projects, including devices driven by axles and winches. Color photographs, drawings, and step-by-step instructions for each machine lead the would-be scientist from idea to working model. Although the machines are simple, the construction may prove complicated for younger readers. There are no lists of supplies, but a careful reading of the instructions and some adult supervision should ensure the success of these projects.
