Overview
Where Children Live is a natural extension of the Advances in Applied Developmental Psychology Series. It extends our coverage and concerns for children and families in their natural habitats. The message of this volume is that effective delivery of child and family services, a comprehensive theoretical model, is needed so that efficient delivery can take place, as well as an evaluation of the quality of those services.
Synopsis
To combat families' growing sense of isolation, these dozen essays rally for a comprehensive theoretical model from which to develop, deliver, and evaluate model services for families with young children. After defining rapidly changing communities as the logical systems entry point, experts examine community influences on child development, principles of family-centered care, a national coalition of communities, the financing of early intervention services, "participatory realism" for stakeholders in evaluation, service integration, and the Healthy Families America model for preventing child maltreatment. A parent's and international perspectives complement the views of contributors, most based at the Early Intervention Research Institute at Utah State, Logan, and Georgetown U. Child Development Center. Roberts is with the former; Magreb at the latter. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
