Children's Literature - Susan Fournier

Part of a series for a very young audience, this board book is designed as a guessing game about several bugs and their unique capabilities. The author gives a short clue on each page, encouraging the reader to guess the identity of each bug. To find the answer, the reader must "slide" the page open (by pulling apart the page), revealing the name of the bug in question. Although it's a seemingly clever idea for a book, the construction is not without its pitfalls. The pages are difficult to slide open, and if the child pulls hard enough, the book may be damaged. The construction is such that with several readings from eager hands, the book is sure to be destroyed. An older child may have the dexterity to slide the pages carefully, but the content and interest level are geared toward the less mature.
