Synopsis
Blaug (Erasmus U., the Netherlands) and Vane (economics, Liverpool John Moores U., UK) present a reference that was first published in 1983 by Wheatsheaf. This edition has significantly changed the contents by including citation counts from 1990 to 2000 as the main criterion for inclusion and excluding all those who died before the end of 2001. Those identified for inclusion were asked to provide career information, descriptions of interests and publications, and a brief statement of their principal contributions to economics. This volume contains 699 new or updated entries and 44 entries repeated from the last edition. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Booknews
A biographical dictionary of major economists, both past and present. Entries provide biographical, bibliographical, and critical information on some 1,000 living economists and some 500 deceased economists. Each entry assesses the economist's distinctive contribution and lists critical studies important for an understanding of his or her work. Living entrants themselves summarize their contributions, offering a unique self-criticism of their work. Includes indexes of principal fields of interest, country of residence, and country of birth. The editor teaches at the University of London and the University of Buckingham. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
