Library Journal

A powerful guide for parents, teenagers, and educators, this exploration of adolescent suicide probably lacks the impact of Johnston's ``Live Expose'' video (not seen, but available through Jerry Johnston Association for $30 plus $2.75 shipping), which features his address before 2000 students. A professional lecturer who has been heard by over 2.5 million teenagers, the author describes not only suicide's causes, misconceptions, and warning signs but specific actions that can be taken to help potential victims. Though not as comprehensive as Sol Gordon's When Living Hurts (UAHC, 1985) the material is current (especially on rock music) and readable, and the subject's importance demands purchase. Recommended for public libraries; larger collections may also want the video, audiocassette, and/or film. Janice Arenofsky, formerly with Arizona State Lib . , Phoenix
