From Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble Review
The Wi-Fi Handbook covers the technology, design, and implementation of Wireless Fidelity in a variety of unique business applications. This guide provides an abundance of experience to the reader in an organized and easy-to-read format. If you want to address the complexities of building 802.11b wireless networks in your own world, this is the book for you.

It starts out with a knowledgeable discussion of the 802.11b standard, providing a nice introduction to the subject and a chapter on how it works. Authors Frank Ohrtman and Konrad Roeder then address specific issues, such as range, security, and quality of service. They provide a close look at voice over 802.11. In Chapter 7, the authors tackle the many areas one must consider in building an 802.11 network. They go on to explain the economic aspects of wireless and the regulatory aspects of 802.11. The authors conclude with an outstanding discussion of the four major objections that have been made to the proposal to adopt 802.11 as a "last mile" solution (that is, access to a greater network) -- be it Internet or the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

A handbook as helpful as this doesn't come along every day. Packed with excellent information, it will prove an indispensable tool for the new wireless network installation that you've been envisioning for your enterprise! John Vacca

John Vacca, the former computer security official (CSO) for NASA's space station program (Freedom), has written 38 books about advanced storage, computer security, and aerospace technology.
