School Library Journal

Gr 6 -10A readable and informative biography of the famous performer who whirled and twirled his lariat as he delivered jokes and commentary about people and events of his time. Malone presents a lively look at the charismatic cowboy, from his Cherokee background and privileged youth to his travels, adventures, and star-studded career in vaudeville, Ziegfeld's Follies, and on his own. The presentation is further enlivened by good-quality black-and-white photos and by many of the subject's well-known quips and witty observations. Will Rogers was a national treasure, and by acquainting modern readers with his memory in accounts such as this, he lives on.George Gleason, Department of English, Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield
