ea. vol: 3lp. diags. illus. maps. photogs. glossary. index. (Energy Today Series). Gloucester Pr, dist. by Watts. Sept. 1985. PLB $9.40. Gr 4-8 This series features colorful photographs and diagrams, large, clear print, wide margins and high quality paperideal for slow readers. Each chapter encompasses one double-page spread with a minimum of text. Although technological and environmental problems are occasionally mentioned, controversy is avoided. The simple facts describing each source of energy, its importance and means of production and distribution are presented. A few statistics (without documentation) are cited. This series updates older works such as Solar Energy (Watts, 1978; o.p.) by Hoke, Alternate Energy Sources (Watts, 1979) by Watson and Oil and Natural Gas (Watts, 1978) by Kraft and is more appealing visually. Bendick's The Wind (Rand McNally, 1964) does not emphasize its use as an energy source. Brown's Fuel Resources (Watts, 1985), Cross' Petroleum (Childrens, 1983) and Carey's Producing Energy (Watts, 1984) are for more advanced readers. Meryl Silverstein, Meyer Levin J.H.S.
