The publisher's "Home Repair & Improvement" series is well known for its excellent instructions and profuse illustrations. This volume covers repairs of varying complexity, ranging from frozen windows to the installation of new doors and windows. Other topics include repairing broken glass, installing screens, fitting locks, and installing garage door openers. Although it tackles some very complex repairs, the book is geared toward beginners. Each section describes the repair in a step-by-step fashion. Lists of the required tools and materials are included, and safety is emphasized throughout. This edition is an improvement over Doors and Windows (Time-Life, 1987), offering much better graphics, tighter organization, and more up-to-date information (such as the sections on garage door openers). Though the old edition is fine where budgets are tight, patrons are well aware of this popular series and will expect most libraries to have a copy of each new installment.Jonathan N.
