School Library Journal
Gr 5-8-Gulf War devotes separate chapters to women who served in the air, on land, at sea, were held as POWs, or died. Each chapter includes from two to seven brief biographies (some less than a page), providing just a glimpse into the service the individuals rendered. Revolution profiles eight individuals and Union six, devoting a full chapter to each one. Although the writing is at times prosaic, it is clear and informative, with compelling stories in each book. Average-quality, black-and-white photos and reproductions are also included. The titles listed for further reading are mostly adult works. Good introductory material for reports and for prompting readers to learn more about these courageous women.-Deanna Romriell, Salt Lake City Library, UT Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
