Overview

This book examines the different ways in which women experience male violence in various situations across 'Europe' and the analyses that feminists have made of that experience. Contributors speak out against men's violent use of power over women, and in favour of making available public resources to support women who survive violent situations, for changes in legislation and developing educational programmes and public awareness campaigns. While the studies differ in form and context, connections are made betweenviolence apparent at different levels from local or 'domestic' to the national and international contexts. Particular emphasis is placed on women's strategies for resistance whether in situations in which violence occurs in the home, in war conditions, in the movement of refugees or in the widening scope of 'sex industries'.
