Gr 3-6-These books provide a fairly good introduction to two different building materials. Both have double-page spreads on various aspects of their subjects, such as how wood and bricks are made and used. The print is large and clear and the full-color photographs and illustrations are good. These titles are adequate when they focus on the production and structure of the materials, but Dyson's discussion of the greenhouse effect and rain forest destruction are not as effective. One or two pages do not do justice to these topics and the controversy surrounding them, and other types of deforestation are not mentioned.-Janet K. Hamilton, Museum of Science, Boston
