Overview

Words That Count contributes to ongoing debates about the nature and identity of authorship in early modern England. With its discussion of solo plays and verse, close and distant two-person collaborations, and multi-author collaborations, it widens our understanding of the varied authorial and theatrical practice of the period from the late 1580s to the early 1620s. At the same time, the volume examines the relation of internal and external evidence, and demonstrates old and new methodological principles and research tools that can identify and analyze objective data to ascertain individual and collaborative authorship and thereby launch new volleys of critical questions.
