Overview

Writing Grant Proposals That Win, Fourth Edition offers step-by-step instructions and clear examples of how to write winning grant proposals. It offers practical guidance on how to:
? Express the need for the project.
? Describe objectives and activities.
? Outline an evaluation plan.
? Create a workable project budget.

The Fourth Edition is a thorough update with all new charts, graphs, tables, and figures; as well as new examples and coverage of current topics. Students will come away with a clear understanding of how reviewers function and what they are looking for in proposal sections, in addition to what is needed to maximize every aspect of the proposal.

The text is loaded with useful tips that will enable your students to hit the ground running, including how to assess a program announcement and ensure each requirement is addressed; condense your entire proposal into a brief but compelling abstract; determine what appendices to include (and in what form) for maximum impact; adequately describe project dissemination and continuation plans; use technology β€” including desktop publishing, graphics, color, and spreadsheets for budget development β€” to enhance your proposals; and structure your proposal to increase your chance of winning.

From The Critics

Reviewer: Diane M Tomasic, EdD, RN(Slippery Rock University )
Description: This book describes the step-by-step basics of writing a grant proposal. The previous edition was published in 2006.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide the fundamentals of grant writing: understanding a request for proposal (RFP), the function of the reviewers, key points in a proposal section, tips for creating winning sections, the influence of technology in the grant process, and resources for funding opportunities.
Audience: The target audience includes both beginning and advanced grant writers. The author is a nationally known grant writer for education and nonprofit clients.
Features: The chapters cover each step of the grant proposal. One chapter contains seven sample proposals, which are most helpful to grant writers. Differences in grant programs are described. In addition, several helpful appendixes include federal and private websites, resources, state single points of contact, sample budget forms and narratives, and sample federal forms. This edition has been updated to include grant changes since 2005. New to this edition is a chapter on technology and coverage of the online submission process.
Assessment: This book should be of great assistance to grant writers. It is easy to understand and the sample proposals are most helpful.
