Overview
This book shows the reader how to construct digital logic circuits using two types of FPLDs from XILINX, Inc.: programmable logic arrays (FPGAs) and complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs). The text's philosophy is based on the idea that digital design expertise is acquired by building circuits to see how they work. Each chapter presents working examples of logic circuits which the reader can experiment with by loading into either a XILINX FPGA or CPLD. While some theory of logic design is presented, the overall tone is more practical. It can be understood by anyone with a knowledge of binary arithmetic and elementary logic operations.Editorials

Presenting a complete programmable logic design environment, this package includes a lab book and CD-ROM, the XILINK software version 3.1, and a discount coupon towards the purchase of CPLD and FPGA based development boards. Intended for courses in digital design, computer architecture, digital signal processing, network system design, ASIC or VLSI design, reconfigurable logic, video processing, robotics and control systems, and rapid prototyping. Includes an integrated design flow consisting of schematics, a high-level design language, state diagrams, and graphical simulation tools; and features an easy-to- learn schematic editor and implementation tools that route the design to create a "bitstream" for downloading to a Programmable Logic Device.
