School Library Journal
PreS-Alfie Elephant and his friends, including Betty Bug, head to the park, where they play, swim, eat lunch, and then go home. Alfie appears on each verso and Betty Bug is hidden under one of the flaps on the facing pages. The cartoonlike art in primary colors is reminiscent of that in a child's coloring book. Beginning readers may enjoy sharing this title with younger siblings, who will have fun guessing where Betty Bug is hiding. Each lift-the-flap page has three options from which the child may choose. The short sentences, one per page, and the large format also make this book suitable for sharing with groups of toddlers. Similar in style and layout to Lucy Cousins's "Maisy" books (Candlewick), this title isn't quite as appealing as those well-known mouse tales. Although the story is not inspired, the bright colors are eye-catching, making it a useful purchase where lift-the-flap books are always in demand.-Laurie Edwards, formerly at Dauphin County Library System, Harrisburg, PA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
