Children's Literature - Denise Daley

Many children and adults suffer from allergies. An allergy causes a person's body to react to something as though it is harmful, even though the substance is not harmful to most other people. Some allergies cause a mild reaction, while others can cause a much more severe reaction. Many different things can trigger an allergic reaction, and this book gives readers a glimpse into different kinds of allergies, including food allergies, breathing allergies, and skin allergies. It then explains the common causes and probable reactions for each. An explanation of allergy treatments is also provided. Each chapter is only two pages long. The many colorful photographs, diagrams, and information boxes make this book both educational and easy to understand. The print is large and the vocabulary is simple, ensuring that this is an ideal tool for teaching young children about common allergies and how they can help themselves or others who may suffer from them. It is part of the "How's Your Health?" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
